The costliest mistake is signing a land contract or importing equipment before knowing your environmental classification. Frequently asked questions
When do I need an environmental permit?
For any environmentally classified activity — covering factories of all kinds and a number of service activities such as paint workshops, laundries and fuel stations. The environmental permit is usually a prerequisite for the industrial licence, not a follow-on to it.
What is the difference between environmental registration and an impact assessment?
Low-impact activities need only environmental registration and an undertaking to comply. Medium and high-impact activities require an environmental impact assessment prepared by an accredited consultancy, which takes considerably longer.
Can I obtain an industrial licence without an environmental permit?
Not for classified activities. The Ministry of Industry requires the environmental side to be satisfied, which is why we recommend starting the environmental track early — it is usually the longest link in the licensing chain.
What if an environmental violation is issued against my facility?
Violations carry a defined correction window, and ignoring it escalates to fines or suspension of the activity. We review the cause, execute the required remediation, and submit evidence of correction within the window.
Is the environmental permit renewable?
Yes, and it has a defined validity that must be renewed before expiry. A lapsed permit affects the validity of both the industrial licence and the municipal licence, so we track it among your critical dates.
